...well actually, mine were white!

there's just something more romantic about white roses. |
Yes, I was thoroughly spoilt this Valentine's day, and although I agree that it's a 'made-up day' and understand why people hate it, I'm also a normal girl who isn't ashamed to admit that I love being spoilt; who doesn't?!
So when my boyfriend told me he was whisking me away to Whittlebury Hall for a spa stay and turned up with Valentine's goodies I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

I think it's important to spend quality time together, to talk about anything and everything and to laugh at the things that nobody else would understand, and our day at the spa gave us the chance to do just that.
It was obvious that Joe wasn't the only man there that felt ridiculous strolling around in his white robe, (the only saving grace being the flip-flop option to replace the slippers!) but we laughed it off and enjoyed a relaxing massage before heading to the pool and then for a spot of lunch.
The rest of our day was spent in the 'heat and ice experience' - a series of 10 different stations that were either extremely steamy or insistently icy! Thankfully we weren't the only couples enjoying ourselves and acting like children, taking it in turns to pull the ice cold bucket shower over the other, or throwing handfuls of ice down each other's back in the ice cave before rushing to the various saunas to warm up again.
When we got back to our room, we were greeted with an ice cold bottle of champers which I enjoyed amidst too many bubbles in our bath, before making ourselves look presentable for our Valentine's dinner.

Joe posing like me? |
As always, we over indulged and took full advantage of the amazing restaurants in the hotel, ordering scallops and fillet beef with a large helping of Pinot Grigio!

As we were about to step into the lift and head up to our room for the night, there was a very brief (but equally terrifying) powercut. The lights went out and stupidly, as soon as they turned back on we continued. We were just leaving the ground floor when everything went black and the lift stopped at the same time as my heart. Luckily, Joe remained calm and looked after me as my knees knocked together and I squealed like a little girl; needless to say I was more than happy to stay safely snuggled in our room for the rest of the evening.
Not only did I appreciate being thoroughly spoilt this weekend, but I also appreciated just how lucky I am to be with someone who appreciates me, wants to spoil me all year round and loves me despite my many flaws.
I can completely understand why people moan about Valentine's day, and argue that the affection is unnecessary on just one day of the year. I'm just lucky enough to have a full time Valentine and best friend, who spoils me and tells me he loves me all year round, but who also knows what a hopeless romantic I am and does the cliché 14th Feb thing as well!
